How to use the Age Calculator
- 1 Enter the date of birth.
- 2 Keep today’s date or choose another date to calculate the age on.
- 3 Read the age in years, months and days, plus totals and the countdown to the next birthday.
How the age is calculated
The calculator counts complete calendar years first, then complete months, then the remaining days. Someone born on 17 May 1990 is 36 years, 4 months and 16 days old on 3 October 2026.
Because months have different lengths, the calculator anchors every month to your birth day. If that day doesn’t exist in a month – for example the 31st in a 30-day month – the last day of that month is used.
Born on 29 February?
People born on a leap day celebrate their birthday on 28 February in common years for this calculation, so they turn a year older on 28 February. Legal rules can differ by country; some use 1 March instead.
More than just years
Besides the age itself you get:
- the total number of months, weeks and days lived,
- the number of days until the next birthday,
- the day of the week you were born on.
Useful for
Checking age requirements for forms, school enrolment or retirement, working out the age of a historical figure on a particular date, or simply finding out how many days old you are.
