How to use the Image Converter
- 1 Choose the output format (JPG, PNG or WebP) and, for JPG and WebP, the quality.
- 2 Optionally make the images smaller: after you add an image, its width and height are filled in – lower one and the other follows to keep the aspect ratio.
- 3 Drop your images on the page and download them one by one or all at once as a ZIP file.
Which format should I choose?
| Format | Best for | Transparency | File size |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos | No | Small |
| PNG | Logos, screenshots, graphics with text | Yes | Large for photos |
| WebP | Websites – photos and graphics | Yes | Smallest |
WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and supports transparency, which is why it is the default here. All modern browsers display WebP. Choose JPG when you need maximum compatibility, for example for older software or printing services, and PNG when every pixel must stay exactly the same.
Your images stay on your device
Unlike most online converters, this tool doesn’t upload anything. Your browser decodes each image, draws it onto a canvas and saves it in the new format. That makes it fast, means there is no file size limit imposed by a server, and keeps private photos private.
Resize while converting
Phone cameras produce images of 12 megapixels or more – far larger than needed for a website, email or chat. Enter a maximum width (for example 1920 px) to scale images down while keeping their aspect ratio. Smaller images load faster and are often 80–90% lighter.
Good to know
- Converting to JPG fills transparent areas with white.
- Animated GIFs are converted using their first frame.
- Metadata such as camera details and GPS location is not copied to the new file – a privacy bonus.
- HEIC photos from iPhones can only be read by browsers that support HEIC (Safari).
For developers
The same conversion is available through our free API (POST /api/v1/tools/image-converter, multipart upload), which runs on our server and deletes files immediately after sending the result.
Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. In the web version, conversion happens entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Is there a limit to how many images I can convert?
No. You can drop as many images as you like and download them all at once as a ZIP file. Very large images (over 50 megapixels) are not supported.
Does converting reduce quality?
PNG is lossless. JPG and WebP use lossy compression; at the default quality of 85 the difference is hard to see while the file becomes much smaller.
Why is my converted PNG larger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel without loss, which makes photos large. Use JPG or WebP for photos and PNG for graphics, logos and screenshots.
