How to use the JPG to PNG
- 1 Choose the output format (JPG, PNG or WebP) and, for JPG and WebP, the quality.
- 2 Optionally make the images smaller: after you add an image, its width and height are filled in – lower one and the other follows to keep the aspect ratio.
- 3 Drop your images on the page and download them one by one or all at once as a ZIP file.
Why convert JPG to PNG?
PNG is a lossless format: once an image is a PNG, editing and saving it again won’t add new compression artefacts. That makes PNG useful when you want to keep editing an image, add text or graphics on top of a photo, or upload to a service that only accepts PNG.
Will the image look better?
No – converting can’t restore detail that JPG compression already removed. The PNG looks exactly like the JPG, but it will be larger, because PNG stores every pixel without loss.
Transparent background?
A JPG never has transparency, so the PNG won’t either. To get a transparent background you need to remove the background in an image editor first.
Frequently asked questions
Is converting JPG to PNG lossless?
Yes. The PNG is an exact copy of the decoded JPG. It just can’t bring back detail lost when the JPG was created.
Why is the PNG so much bigger?
PNG compresses without loss, which is inefficient for photos. That is normal.
