Sync settings

Choose what your account keeps in step on every device where you are signed in.

  • My tools

Always synced: the tools on your board, their order and size.

  • The windows open on your start page, including what you typed in them.

  • Every note in the notepad – on the notepad page, on your board and in windows.

  • Every list of website shortcuts – on the shortcuts page, on your board and in windows.

  • Every grid in the cover grid maker – on its page, on your board and in windows.

  • Every list of bookmarked organisations in the OIN lookup – on its page, on your board and in windows.

  • Keeps your pipeline and saved recipes on all your devices. Your files are never synced – only the steps and settings.

Turning something off removes it from your account straight away. Your devices keep their own copy.

Notifications

Tools that can tell you about something new while a Synsi tab is open, even when you are in another tab or app. Choose them for this browser.

This browser cannot show notifications from websites.
Notifications are blocked for this site. Allow them in your browser’s site settings (the icon left of the address), then switch them on here.
  • Says “New message” while a Synsi tab is open – never who wrote it or what.

Your choice is stored in this browser only. Notifications never show personal content such as a message or a number. They work while a Synsi tab is open; closed tabs get none.

Data Storage Converter – KB, MB, GB, TB, KiB, MiB and GiB

Common conversions

From unit Value To unit Result
Kilobytes (KB) 1 Bytes (B) 1,000
Kibibytes (KiB) 1 Bytes (B) 1,024
Gigabytes (GB) 1 Gibibytes (GiB) 0.9313
Terabytes (TB) 1 Gibibytes (GiB) 931.3226
Gibibytes (GiB) 1 Megabytes (MB) 1,073.7418
Bytes (B) 1 Bits 8

How to use the Data Storage Converter

  1. 1 Enter the amount of data, such as a file size or drive capacity.
  2. 2 Choose the starting unit, for example TB.
  3. 3 Choose the target unit, for example GiB, to see what your operating system will report.

Decimal and binary units

There are two families of data units, and mixing them up causes most storage confusion:

  • Decimal (SI) units – kilobyte (KB) = 1,000 bytes, megabyte (MB) = 1,000 KB, gigabyte (GB) = 1,000 MB, terabyte (TB) = 1,000 GB, petabyte (PB) = 1,000 TB.
  • Binary (IEC) units – kibibyte (KiB) = 1,024 bytes, mebibyte (MiB) = 1,024 KiB, gibibyte (GiB) = 1,024 MiB, tebibyte (TiB) = 1,024 GiB.

Drive and memory-card manufacturers use decimal units. Windows reports sizes in binary units but labels them KB, MB and GB, while macOS and most Linux tools use decimal units.

Why does my 1 TB drive show 931 GB?

A 1 TB drive holds 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. Divided by 1,073,741,824 bytes per GiB, that is 931.3 GiB, which Windows displays as “931 GB”. No space is missing; the same amount is expressed in a different unit. The gap grows with size: about 2.4% for kilobytes, 7% for gigabytes and 10% for terabytes.

Bits and bytes

A byte is 8 bits. Storage is measured in bytes (capital B), while internet and network speeds are measured in bits per second (lower-case b, as in Mbps). A 100 MB file is 800 megabits. For transfer speeds, use the internet speed category of the unit converter or the download time calculator.

Typical file sizes

  • A text email: a few kilobytes
  • A smartphone photo: 2–5 MB
  • One minute of 4K video: around 350–400 MB, depending on the codec
  • A modern video game: 50–150 GB

To see how many files fit on a drive or how much space remains, use the storage calculator.

Conversion factors follow the SI definitions in the BIPM SI Brochure and the exact factors for US customary and imperial units in NIST Special Publication 811. Binary prefixes (KiB, MiB, GiB) are defined in IEC 80000-13; see NIST – Prefixes for binary multiples.

Frequently asked questions

How many MB are in a GB?

In decimal units there are 1,000 MB in a GB. In binary units there are 1,024 MiB in a GiB.

What is the difference between GB and GiB?

A gigabyte (GB) is 1,000,000,000 bytes; a gibibyte (GiB) is 1,073,741,824 bytes, about 7.4% more.

How many GB is 1 TB?

1 TB is 1,000 GB, or 931.32 GiB as shown by Windows.

How many bits are in a byte?

One byte is 8 bits.

How many photos fit on 64 GB?

With photos of about 4 MB, roughly 16,000 fit on 64 GB, but system files and apps also use space, so plan for fewer.
