Sync settings

Choose what your account keeps in step on every device where you are signed in.

  • My tools

Always synced: the tools on your board, their order and size.

  • The windows open on your start page, including what you typed in them.

  • Every note in the notepad – on the notepad page, on your board and in windows.

  • Every list of website shortcuts – on the shortcuts page, on your board and in windows.

  • Every grid in the cover grid maker – on its page, on your board and in windows.

  • Every list of bookmarked organisations in the OIN lookup – on its page, on your board and in windows.

  • Keeps your pipeline and saved recipes on all your devices. Your files are never synced – only the steps and settings.

Turning something off removes it from your account straight away. Your devices keep their own copy.

Notifications

Tools that can tell you about something new while a Synsi tab is open, even when you are in another tab or app. Choose them for this browser.

This browser cannot show notifications from websites.
Notifications are blocked for this site. Allow them in your browser’s site settings (the icon left of the address), then switch them on here.
  • Says “New message” while a Synsi tab is open – never who wrote it or what.

Your choice is stored in this browser only. Notifications never show personal content such as a message or a number. They work while a Synsi tab is open; closed tabs get none.

Web Search – Search Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo

Search the web with Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo from one simple search box. Pick an engine, type and press Enter – and make this your homepage if you like.

My tools →

Your search goes straight from your browser to the search engine you choose – Synsi never sees it. Your choice of engine is remembered in this browser.

Make Synsi your homepage

For your security, browsers don’t let websites change your homepage themselves. Setting it by hand takes less than a minute:

Google Chrome Your browser
  1. Open the menu ⋮ (top right) and choose Settings.
  2. Go to On startup and select “Open a specific page or set of pages”.
  3. Click “Add a new page”, paste the address above and click Add.
  4. Optional: under Appearance, turn on “Show home button” and enter the same address.
Microsoft Edge Your browser
  1. Open the menu … (top right) and choose Settings.
  2. Go to “Start, home, and new tabs”.
  3. Under “When Edge starts”, choose “Open these pages”, click “Add a new page” and paste the address above.
  4. Optional: turn on the Home button on the toolbar and enter the same address.
Mozilla Firefox Your browser
  1. Open the menu ☰ (top right) and choose Settings.
  2. Open the Home panel.
  3. Under “Homepage and new windows”, choose “Custom URLs…” and paste the address above.
Safari on Mac Your browser
  1. Choose Safari › Settings and open General.
  2. Paste the address above into Homepage.
  3. Set “New windows open with” to Homepage.
Chrome on Android Your browser
  1. Tap the menu ⋮ and then Settings.
  2. Tap Homepage, turn it on and choose “Enter custom web address”.
  3. Paste the address above.
iPhone and iPad Your browser
  1. Safari on iPhone and iPad has no homepage setting.
  2. Instead, tap the Share button and choose “Add to Home Screen” to open Synsi with one tap.

Tip: add the Web Search widget to My tools, and your homepage gives you search and your favourite tools in one place.

How to use the Web Search

  1. 1 Choose Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo in the dropdown – your choice is remembered in this browser.
  2. 2 Type what you are looking for and press Enter or click Search.
  3. 3 Want this on every new window? Click “Set as my homepage” and follow the steps for your browser.

Three search engines, one box

Each search engine has its strengths, and switching between them usually means typing a different address. Here you choose the engine from a dropdown and search straight away:

Search engine Known for Privacy
Google The largest index and the most localised results, maps and shopping Personalises results based on your activity when signed in
Bing Strong image and video search, rewards programme, used by many other services Personalises results when you are signed in to a Microsoft account
DuckDuckGo Searching without a personal profile, “bangs” such as !w for Wikipedia Does not track searches or build a profile of you

Not happy with the results? Switch the dropdown and press Enter again – the same query is sent to the other engine.

Your search never passes through Synsi

The search box is an ordinary web form that sends your query from your browser directly to the search engine you pick. Synsi does not see, store or log what you search for, and the search engine is not told that you came from Synsi. The only thing saved is your preferred engine, in your own browser's storage.

Search smarter with operators

All three engines understand a few special operators:

  • "exact phrase" – only pages with these words in this order.
  • -word – leave out pages that contain a word, for example jaguar -car.
  • site:example.com – search within one website.
  • filetype:pdf – find a particular kind of document (Google and Bing).

See the official help pages below for the full lists.

Make it your homepage

Browsers don't let websites change your homepage – a sensible protection against software that hijacks it. Click Set as my homepage to see the steps for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari or Android; it takes less than a minute. Add the Web Search widget to My tools on the Synsi start page and you get a search box and your favourite tools on one page every time you open your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Does Synsi see what I search for?

No. Your query goes directly from your browser to Google, Bing or DuckDuckGo. Synsi never receives or stores it.

Can a website set itself as my homepage?

No. Modern browsers only let you change the homepage yourself, in their settings. The “Set as my homepage” button shows you the exact steps for your browser.

Which search engine is the most private?

DuckDuckGo does not build a profile of you or personalise results based on your history. Google and Bing personalise results, especially when you are signed in.

Is my choice of search engine remembered?

Yes, in this browser only. The next time you open this page or the search widget, your last engine is selected.
